Back in the day, steel was the common material of choice in building bicycle frames. Due to the advancement of technology, many companies have been fabricating bikes made of aluminum or carbon fiber for of its light profile and ease of manufacturing. And for this reason, mass production made these framesets easily available from any of your local bike store.
But in Patrick's case, lighter isn't always better. He wanted something that is unique, custom fitted, and built by hand. "I wanted to have a bike that i can call my final build, and pass it to my son when he grows up". Steel is undeniably durable and can definitely stand the test of time, making it the best choice of frame material to suit his needs. Patrick says he is drawn to the classic look of the GT Pulse and GTB frames which inspired him to mimic the triple-triangle design on his custom Ave Maldea frame.
"This bike is a tribute to a very good friend of mine, Bam Morillo. I don't have any plans on replacing or upgrading parts on my Ave Maldea, but I'm thinking of maybe building a Cinelli project in the future."
