As the local scene continues to grow, different groups have been organizing races that are dedicated to fixed-gear bikes. These races keep the flame alive and motivate young riders to not just ride their bikes on commutes but also to train for fun, fitness and competition.
Years ago, competitors were out there racing with just cut-up shorts and beat up vans. Unlike today, most riders now wear custom skinsuits and clipless shoes to get that performance advantage. This goes to show how the scene keeps progressing over the years.
Last month, CVTFG recently had the 3rd installment of Hari Ng Daang Hari, one of the most anticipated all-fixed gear cannonball races in the country. This year’s race was composed of 239 riders, almost tripled from last year’s 88 racers. The scorching heat didn’t stop these cyclists from different teams around the local scene to compete through the rolling hills of the major road that connects Cavite to Alabang.
Ronnel Huallda broke away from the peloton in the last few kilometers and took the top spot.
